AI Summary
This bill amends the School Code to modify professional development requirements for educator license renewal. Specifically, the bill reduces the total number of professional development hours required for most educators from 120 to 60 hours per 5-year renewal cycle. For educators with an administrative endorsement working in an administrative position or those with a Teacher Leader endorsement serving in an administrative capacity at least 50% of the day, the professional development requirement is reduced from 100 to 50 hours per renewal cycle. Additionally, educators with a current National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) master teacher designation will now need to complete only 30 hours of professional development per 5-year renewal cycle, down from the previous 60 hours. Educators with an administrative endorsement will still be required to complete one Illinois Administrators' Academy course each fiscal year. The bill also provides a 20% reduction in professional development hours for any renewal cycle that includes the 2021-2022 school year. These changes aim to reduce the professional development burden on educators while maintaining opportunities for continued learning and professional growth.
