This bill allows the town of Monson to increase its select board (a local governing body similar to a town council) from 3 to 5 members. At the first town election after the bill's passage, 3 new select board members will be elected with staggered terms: the candidate with the most votes will serve a 3-year term, the second-highest vote-getter will serve a 2-year term, and the third-highest vote-getter will serve a 1-year term. After these initial elections, future board members will be elected to standard 3-year terms. The select board will be required to choose a chairperson from among its members annually.
