This bill increases the uniform 911 surcharge from $1.65 to $1.95 for each 911 communications service or prepaid wireless device, maintaining the existing provisions that the surcharge must be uniform, competitively neutral, and collected separately from other provider fees. The bill also adds a new section that sets an expiration date for the chapter on January 31, 2029, effectively establishing a sunset provision for the 911 emergency communication services regulations. Additionally, the bill repeals a section of The Fiscal Code to support these changes and specifies that the bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment.
