AI Summary

This bill directs the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to develop and conduct a survey among Florida youth to potentially select a new official state bird, replacing the current northern mockingbird. The survey will be administered to participants in the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network summer camps during 2026 and 2027, offering five bird species as options: the northern mockingbird, American osprey, Florida scrub jay, American flamingo, and American white ibis. The FWC will provide participants with additional information about these birds from its website and must submit the survey results to the Senate President and House Speaker by December 31, 2027. This proposal stems from previous legislative considerations and a 2008 youth vote that recommended the American osprey, reflecting an ongoing interest in allowing younger generations to have input on the state's symbolic representation. The bill will take effect immediately upon becoming law.
