This bill establishes a pilot program for professional development for science teachers in Wisconsin for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years, requiring the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to collaborate with Wisconsin-based nonprofit organizations that offer such training to teachers of science in grades kindergarten through 12. As part of this program, the DPI may provide science equipment at no cost to participating teachers for use in their classrooms if that equipment is related to the professional development offered. The bill also mandates that by October 1, 2027, the DPI must submit a report to the legislature detailing the program's reach, including the number of teachers trained and the amount of science equipment distributed, as well as listing the organizations that provided the professional development. Furthermore, the DPI is required to request funding from the Joint Committee on Finance to support this program, and if that funding is not approved by June 1, 2026, the professional development program and reporting requirements will not proceed.
