This bill revises the composition and appointment process for the Commission on Uniform State Laws, a legislative advisory commission in Alabama. The bill modifies existing state law to explicitly add the term "Pro Tempore" when referring to the Senate President's appointment authority and the term "of Representatives" when referring to the House Speaker's appointment authority. The commission will continue to consist of three bar-licensed members appointed by the Governor for four-year terms, a Senate member appointed by the Senate President Pro Tempore, a House of Representatives member appointed by the House Speaker, the Director of the Legislative Services Agency, and the Deputy Director of the Legislative Services Agency's Law Revision Division. The bill also updates the vacancy-filling provisions to clarify that if an appointed commissioner leaves their position, the Governor, Senate President Pro Tempore, or House Speaker who originally made the appointment can fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2026, providing ample time for implementation.
