AI Summary

This bill requires the removal of "double utility poles," which are defined as damaged or outdated utility poles that remain in place after a replacement pole has been installed. Under the bill, when an electric public utility identifies a double utility pole, the owners of pole attachments must remove their equipment from the old pole within 10 business days. After removing their attachments, these owners must notify the double utility pole's owner. Once notified, the double utility pole's owner must then remove the old pole within five business days. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is tasked with creating regulations to implement these requirements, including rules about transferring pole attachments. The bill will take effect on the first day of the sixth month following its enactment, giving utilities and attachment owners time to prepare for the new requirements. This legislation aims to improve utility infrastructure by ensuring that obsolete poles are promptly removed, which can help reduce visual clutter, improve safety, and maintain the efficiency of utility networks.
