This bill requires the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC), a state agency responsible for overseeing campaign finance and election laws, to establish and continuously operate a toll-free telephone hotline for citizens to report various election-related violations. The hotline will accept reports about campaign finance violations under the New Jersey Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting Act, election-related crimes specified in Title 19 of the Revised Statutes, and other violations of election laws or related regulations. After receiving reports, ELEC will be required to review each individual complaint and will have the authority to refer its findings to appropriate law enforcement agencies, including the Office of the Attorney General, county prosecutors, or other relevant authorities, as deemed necessary. The bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment, providing a short transition period for ELEC to set up the hotline and prepare its reporting and investigation processes.
