The committee will conduct a comprehensive study examining policy considerations around consumer privacy, technical implementation standards, and potential funding requirements for improving location information transmission during 988 crisis calls. Within one year, the committee must submit a detailed report to Congress and the FCC with findings and recommendations for potential legislation. The committee will be composed of representatives from various stakeholder groups, including members from low-population states, rural communities, and organizations serving people with hearing disabilities. After submitting its report, the committee will automatically terminate 30 days later, and the bill specifies that no additional funding will be allocated beyond existing appropriations to support this initiative.
