This Constitutional Amendment, relating to sheriffs, proposes to remove the existing age restriction that prevents individuals from holding the office of county sheriff after they reach the age of seventy. Currently, Article 78 of the New Hampshire Constitution disqualifies individuals from serving as sheriff once they turn seventy years old. If this amendment is approved by voters in the November 2026 general election, there will no longer be an upper age limit for someone to serve as a county sheriff.
