This bill amends the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 to establish a new category called "urban canals of concern," which are canal segments that, if they were to fail, would put more than 100 people at risk or cause over $5 million in property damage. The bill authorizes the Secretary of the Interior or the canal's operating entity to perform extraordinary maintenance and operation work on these canals when deemed necessary. If such work is required, the federal government will provide funding to cover 35% of the total cost on a nonreimbursable basis, with the remaining potentially additional federal funds to be repaid later.
