This bill makes it illegal to prepare, distribute, manufacture, sell, possess, or advertise synthetic or semisynthetic kratom, which are defined as kratom alkaloids or their derivatives that have been chemically altered or created through synthetic or biosynthetic means, rather than traditional food preparation. The only exception to these prohibitions is for activities undertaken for the sole purpose of scientific research. Additionally, synthetic or semisynthetic kratom will be classified as a schedule II controlled drug under the state's Controlled Drug Act, meaning it is considered to have a high potential for abuse and a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions.
