This resolution commends Julius Shoulars, a member of the Greatest Generation, on his 100th birthday for his distinguished service to the Commonwealth and the United States. Born in 1925, Shoulars served in the United States Navy during World War II, volunteering shortly after graduating high school and joining the experimental 7th Naval Beach Battalion. This unit was crucial for managing logistics and troop movements during amphibious operations, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, where Shoulars landed on Omaha Beach the day after the initial assault, helping to clear obstacles and bury fallen comrades. He later served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Karnes, transporting cargo and evacuating wounded personnel. After the war, Shoulars returned to Virginia, married his wife Ruby, and has since dedicated himself to honoring fellow veterans and sharing the lessons of courage and patriotism with younger generations, having returned to France multiple times to educate others about the significance of D-Day. The resolution directs the Clerk of the Senate to prepare a copy for presentation to Mr. Shoulars as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements.
