It also mandates that recess, defined as physical activity promoting fitness and well-being that prohibits the use of electronic devices, be included in the physical education curriculum for all students from kindergarten through eighth grade, with elementary and middle schools allowed to count this recess time as instructional time, and limits withholding students from recess only when their participation poses a direct physical safety risk.
