This bill modifies New Hampshire's existing motor vehicle window tinting regulations by allowing aftermarket window tinting on the front side windows of vehicles, provided that the tinted windows still allow at least 35 percent of light to pass through, which is measured using standardized testing methods. The bill also expands the existing medical exemption process for window tinting, giving the commissioner of motor vehicles the authority to issue special permits for individuals with legitimate medical needs who require additional window tinting. The medical exemption permits will also be subject to the 35 percent light transmittance requirement, and medical documentation can be provided by licensed medical providers in any state, including those affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The new regulations will take effect on January 1, 2027, giving vehicle owners and state agencies time to prepare for the change in window tinting rules.
