This bill establishes the "Study Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren," a diverse 20-member commission designed to examine challenges faced by grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The commission will include representatives from various organizations and government agencies, such as AARP Missouri, the faith community, family policy organizations, foster care associations, and state departments like Health and Senior Services and Social Services. Members will be appointed by key state officials including the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and legislative leaders, with a requirement to ensure diverse representation across racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic backgrounds. The lieutenant governor will call the first meeting where members will elect a chair and vice chair, and legislative members will receive standard compensation and expenses. Non-legislative members will serve without pay but may be reimbursed for meeting expenses. The commission is tasked with preparing a comprehensive report on its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the General Assembly by January 15, 2027, after which the commission will be dissolved.
