This bill creates the "Missouri Disabled Veterans' Dependents Tuition Waiver" to provide college tuition waivers for dependents of certain veterans who meet specific criteria. The waiver covers tuition and incidental fees at public institutions in Missouri, not to exceed the tuition at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and is available to residents who have a parent, stepparent, or spouse who: died while on active duty, died of a service-connected disability, died after discharge due to service-related injury, is permanently and totally disabled from military service, or is classified as missing in action or a prisoner of war. Eligible children or stepchildren must be under 26 years old (or up to 31 if they served active duty), and the waiver covers one degree from a community college and one baccalaureate degree from a state university. The Missouri Veterans Commission will manage the application process, verify eligibility, and coordinate with the Coordinating Board for Higher Education to implement the program. Recipients cannot simultaneously receive other state-funded veteran-dependent tuition grants and must report any additional financial assistance they receive. The waiver aims to support families of veterans who have made significant sacrifices in service to the country by reducing the financial burden of higher education.
