This bill adds a new section to Missouri law (188.140) that defines "pro-life individual or organization" as any person or nonprofit entity with interests in protecting human life, including those with tax-exempt status under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. The bill allows pro-life individuals or organizations to intervene in legal actions involving abortion regulations or unborn children's rights. Specifically, the first pro-life entity to file for intervention will have the right to represent the unborn child's rights in the proceeding and file necessary legal documents. Additional pro-life individuals or organizations can submit amicus curiae briefs (legal documents providing additional information or arguments to the court) either on their own behalf or on behalf of the unborn child. This legislation appears designed to provide pro-life advocates with expanded legal standing to participate in court cases related to abortion and fetal rights in Missouri.
