This bill amends Missouri law to prohibit public school staff members from encouraging or facilitating a minor student's "social transition," which is defined as a student changing their gender presentation or expression to be perceived as a gender different from their biological sex. This includes actions like using pronouns or names that do not correspond to the student's biological sex, or allowing students to use facilities or participate in activities designated for the opposite biological sex. The bill requires staff members to notify a student's parent within 24 hours of any request related to social transition and prohibits staff from withholding information from parents about a student's physical, emotional, or mental health. It also protects staff members who decline to use a student's preferred pronouns or names if they are inconsistent with the student's biological sex, and outlines disciplinary actions for staff who knowingly violate these provisions, as well as allowing for civil action by parents, the Attorney General, or staff members.
