This bill prohibits public school staff members from encouraging or facilitating a minor student's "social transition," which is defined as a student changing their gender presentation or expression to be perceived as a gender different from their biological sex, including using different pronouns or names than their legal ones. Public school staff are also forbidden from delivering lessons on gender transition and must notify a student's parent within 24 hours of any request by the student to participate in or facilitate their social transition, such as using facilities or participating in activities designated for the opposite biological sex. The bill also protects staff and students from disciplinary action for declining to use certain pronouns or names and allows for civil action against schools or staff for violations, with prevailing parents or staff potentially receiving attorney fees and damages.
