This bill amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 15-741 to allow for the statewide assessment to be administered in written form under specific circumstances. Previously, the state board of education determined the manner of implementation for statewide assessments, which measure pupil achievement in reading, writing, and mathematics. Now, a school district or charter school may administer the statewide assessment in writing if it's required by an individualized education program or a Section 504 plan (which are plans to accommodate students with disabilities), for special circumstances, for religious purposes, upon request from a pupil's parent or guardian, or if approved by a majority vote of the school district's or charter school's governing board. This change provides more flexibility in how these important student assessments are administered.
