Bill Summary
This bill requires the Department of Corrections to establish and maintain on its website an interactive reporting system that is updated every 72 hours and that reports all of the following complaint data for each state correctional institution: 1. The total number of complaints filed in the current calendar year. 2. For every complaint filed, all complaint data, disaggregated, in a format that is searchable by each category of information contained in the complaint and that does not contain any personally identifying information for an inmate or employee of the state correctional institution. The reporting system must be established within six months of the bill’s passage. For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
AI Summary
This bill requires the Wisconsin Department of Corrections to create and maintain an interactive online reporting system that provides comprehensive data about complaints in state correctional institutions. The reporting system must be updated at least every 72 hours and will include two key types of information: first, the total number of complaints filed at each correctional institution in the current calendar year, and second, detailed complaint data that can be searched by different categories while ensuring no personally identifying information about inmates or employees is disclosed. The department must establish this system within six months of the bill's passage, with an initial funding allocation of $70,000 in fiscal year 2025-26 and an additional $30,000 in fiscal year 2026-27 to support the system's establishment and ongoing operation. The goal appears to be increasing transparency about complaints within state correctional facilities while protecting the privacy of individuals involved.
