AI Summary

This bill requires the Department of Corrections and county sheriffs to provide free, nontoxic menstrual products to inmates with active menstrual cycles in state correctional institutions, county jails, and houses of correction. Specifically, the bill mandates that these facilities must offer at least three brands of tampons (with one brand having a plastic applicator), three brands of menstrual pads, and one brand of reusable menstrual cup, all of which must be verified as nontoxic. The bill defines "nontoxic" as products free from harmful substances like carcinogens, heavy metals, pesticides, and other potentially dangerous additives. Additionally, the Department of Corrections must develop procedures to verify and publish a list of approved nontoxic menstrual products, and both state and county facilities must provide a way to sanitize reusable menstrual cups for inmates. This legislation aims to ensure that incarcerated individuals have access to essential hygiene products without additional cost, addressing a significant health and dignity concern for menstruating inmates.
