AI Summary
This bill requires that starting July 1, 2026, any government agency entering into or renewing a contract for public works projects, which are construction or infrastructure projects funded by public money, must ensure the contractor signs a notarized affidavit stating they do not knowingly hire undocumented workers. Additionally, contractors must use the E-Verify program, an online system to confirm the employment eligibility of their workers, and provide an E-verification number for any employee working on the project upon request. The bill also stipulates that a contractor cannot employ someone for a public works project if that person lacks an E-verification number, unless they subsequently provide one. Importantly, contractors acting in good faith who mistakenly misidentify a worker's immigration status while complying with these requirements are protected from civil lawsuits.
