This bill, known as the AI Workforce PREPARE Act, aims to better forecast and plan for the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the United States workforce by improving data collection, research, and forecasting methods. Additionally, it mandates the development of benchmarks to measure AI's automation capabilities, encourages voluntary reporting of AI adoption and use from private entities, and requires the inclusion of AI-related questions in federal surveys. To better understand AI's role in job displacement, employers will be required to disclose if AI was a substantial factor in mass layoffs, including the type of AI used and its estimated contribution to job losses. The bill also calls for detailed employment forecasts for AI-sensitive occupations, incorporating prediction intervals to reflect uncertainty, and establishes a prize competition to incentivize accurate AI labor market forecasts. Finally, it requires a report on how the new data and tools will be used in selecting and measuring the performance of workforce and training programs, and mandates a study on potential adjustment assistance programs for workers impacted by AI.
