This bill modifies the Washington College Grant and College Bound Scholarship programs to increase financial aid for students attending private four-year not-for-profit institutions of higher education in Washington. Specifically, starting in the 2026-27 academic year, the maximum Washington College Grant for these students will be raised to 90 percent of the average awards given to students at public regional universities and the state college, a significant increase from the previous 50 percent. Similarly, for the College Bound Scholarship program, beginning in the 2027-28 academic year, the award for students attending private four-year not-for-profit institutions will also be set at 90 percent of the average awards granted to students at public regional universities and the state college, up from the previous 50 percent of awards at public research universities. These changes aim to make private not-for-profit higher education more accessible and affordable for eligible students in Washington.
