AI Summary

This bill amends Indiana's Deceptive Consumer Sales Act to expand the definitions of "consumer transaction" and "supplier" to include transactions involving products or services provided to state and local agencies. Specifically, the bill adds state agencies and local agencies to the list of entities covered by consumer protection laws, clarifying that such transactions can be subject to legal action. For transactions involving state agencies, only the attorney general can bring an enforcement action, while transactions involving local agencies can be pursued by the local agency's attorney or the attorney general if requested by the local government. The bill provides detailed definitions for "local agency" and "state agency", excluding educational institutions, and outlines the potential court actions that can be taken, such as issuing injunctions, ordering monetary restitution, and recovering investigation costs. These changes aim to extend consumer protection safeguards to government procurement and service contracts, ensuring that state and local agencies have legal recourse against deceptive business practices.
