This bill establishes a new special vehicle registration plate for individuals with autism spectrum disorder in Pennsylvania. The Department of Transportation is required to design a new plate that includes the phrase "Autistic/Neurodivergent" at the bottom, which can be issued to an individual with autism spectrum disorder or to the owner of a vehicle frequently occupied by such an individual. To obtain the special plate, applicants must submit a $14 fee (in addition to regular registration fees), along with a sworn statement from a licensed physician identifying the individual with autism spectrum disorder and any other documentation the department requires. The special plate can only be used on passenger cars or trucks weighing 14,000 pounds or less and will have the same legal standing as a standard registration plate. The new plate design and program will be implemented within 60 days of the bill's enactment, providing a way for families and individuals to visibly recognize and support those with autism spectrum disorder.
