This bill aims to enhance the "high school and beyond plan" process for students by integrating financial aid application information and notifications. Specifically, it mandates that the universal online platform for these plans, managed by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), will import financial aid application data from the Washington Student Achievement Council to allow students, parents, and school staff to easily track progress and completion status of state and federal financial aid applications. Additionally, the bill requires electronic notifications, at least annually, to students enrolled in the College Bound Scholarship program, reminding them of their enrollment and program requirements, and encouraging them to complete necessary postsecondary financial aid applications. The bill also updates the requirements for the high school and beyond plan itself to include a dedicated section for postsecondary financial aid application elements, such as identifying enrollment in scholarship programs, confirming receipt of information about completing financial aid applications, and documenting whether these applications have been completed.
