Bill Summary
AN ACT Relating to adding tribal representation to the board of 2 natural resources; amending RCW 43.30.205; and creating a new 3 section. 4
AI Summary
This bill amends existing law to increase the number of members on the board of natural resources from six to eight, adding two tribal representatives. The legislature finds that including tribal members will bring valuable perspective and expertise to the board's decision-making processes. These two tribal representatives will be appointed by the governor and must be members of a federally recognized Indian tribe, with one representing the area east of the Cascade Mountains and the other representing the area west of the Cascades. The governor is required to seek nominations from all federally recognized tribes in Washington and those with treaty-ceded lands, and to collaborate with these tribes on the selection of these representatives.
