This resolution mourns the death of Vicky L. King, a pioneering educator and athletic leader from Mill Shoals, Illinois, who passed away on November 23, 2025. The resolution highlights King's significant achievements, including graduating as valedictorian from Mills Prairie High School in 1972, being part of the first female athletic class to receive full scholarships under Title IX, and serving as a physical education and driver education teacher at Carbondale Community High School (CCHS). She was a successful softball and golf coach, recording over 250 softball wins and leading the first girls' golf team to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championship. King became the first female athletic director at CCHS and later served as the school's principal until her retirement in 2010. She remained active in education, serving on the CCHS Board of Education and being inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.
