This bill requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to create and maintain a publicly available online directory of healthcare providers who accept assignments under the CHAMPVA program (Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs). The bill mandates that each network of healthcare providers must annually query their providers to determine whether they accept CHAMPVA assignments, which means agreeing to accept the program's determined payment as full compensation for services. Providers must submit the results of these queries to the VA, with the first queries to be completed within 90 days of the bill's enactment and the initial directory to be made public within 180 days. For the next five years, the VA must submit annual reports to Congress detailing the number and percentage of providers accepting CHAMPVA assignments, broken down by state and Veterans Integrated Service Network. The reports must also identify geographical areas with CHAMPVA beneficiaries but no participating providers. The goal of this legislation is to improve transparency and help CHAMPVA beneficiaries more easily find healthcare providers who will accept their insurance, ultimately making it easier for veterans and their families to access medical care.
