This bill modifies existing Michigan school immunization requirements by updating language related to immunization documentation and reporting. The bill replaces references to a "physician" with "qualified health care professional" and changes references from the "department of community health" to the "department of health and human services". For school enrollment, students must now submit either a health professional's statement of immunization, specific medical or nonmedical waiver forms, or a statement showing they are in the process of completing immunization requirements. The bill requires school administrators to provide detailed, deidentified and aggregated immunization status reports to the state health department by November 1 and February 1 each year for students entering school or entering 7th grade. Schools must use forms provided by the department of health and human services when submitting these reports. The bill also maintains existing provisions about preschool vision screening requirements and allows the department of health and human services to create rules implementing these immunization requirements. Importantly, the bill will only take effect if a companion bill (House Bill 5349) is also enacted into law.
