This bill directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to temporarily extend the period during which certain individuals can file medical claims under the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA). Specifically, for covered individuals who seek retroactive approval for medical care, the bill establishes a new claims filing period from the date of the bill's enactment until September 30, 2027. If a covered individual receives retroactive approval, they will have at least 365 days from the date of that approval notice to file their medical care claim. A "covered individual" is defined as someone eligible for CHAMPVA medical care who is also enrolled in Medicare Part A hospital insurance. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs is required to develop regulations to implement these new claim filing provisions. This bill aims to provide additional flexibility and time for eligible veterans and their families to submit medical care claims under the CHAMPVA program.
