This bill, known as the Fit Vets Act, requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish a pilot program offering enrolled veterans access to a senior exercise program, such as SilverSneakers or a comparable alternative, as part of their healthcare. Eligible veterans must be enrolled in the VA's patient enrollment system and meet specific criteria set by the Secretary. The pilot program can be implemented nationally or regionally and will conclude three years after its establishment. Within 180 days of the program's termination, the Secretary must report to Congress on participation rates, costs, the program's impact on veterans' health outcomes (including physical fitness and chronic disease management), and provide recommendations on whether to make the program permanent.
