This bill, known as the "Dye Free Procurement Act," aims to change how the U.S. federal government buys food. Specifically, it prohibits federal agencies from renewing or entering into contracts for food that contains certain artificial color additives, which are listed as Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6, Green No. 3, Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, Citrus Red No. 2, and Orange B. Furthermore, the bill mandates that federal agencies should prioritize buying food that does not contain any color additives at all, whenever it's possible and practical to do so. The terms "color additive" and "food" are defined by existing federal law, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and "executive agency" refers to federal government departments and agencies as defined in title 41 of the U.S. Code. These new rules will become effective six months after the bill is passed and will apply to all new food contracts signed from that point forward.
