Specifically, when the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) makes a final determination about a child abuse or neglect report (either "indicated" or "unfounded"), they must provide written notification to the alleged perpetrator, including a comprehensive explanation of the appeal process. The notification must now include a detailed list of all appeal steps and a checklist of what must be submitted for an appeal. Additionally, the bill requires DCFS to send the alleged perpetrator, parents, and guardians of the alleged child victim a complete copy of the investigation's case information, which can be delivered either electronically or by regular U.S. mail. The only limitation is that the shared information cannot include details prohibited by state or federal law. This change aims to increase transparency and provide clearer guidance to all parties involved in a child protective services investigation about the determination and potential appeal process.
