This bill allows driver's licenses and state identification cards to include a Gold Star Family symbol for immediate family members of military service members who died in a combat zone. The bill defines a "Gold Star Family member" as an immediate family member of a service member who died while serving in any branch of the United States armed forces. When applying for a driver's license or identification card, applicants who are Gold Star Family members can now choose to have their card display a special symbol consisting of a folded military burial flag with golden stars and the words "Gold Star Family" in a size and placement determined by the state registrar. To qualify, applicants must present documentation verifying their status as a Gold Star Family member. The bill amends several sections of Ohio's Revised Code to implement this new option, allowing these family members to visibly honor their loved ones' military sacrifice through a voluntary symbol on their state-issued identification documents.
