This bill modifies existing Florida laws concerning temporary certificates for healthcare professionals, such as physicians and nurses, who practice in areas designated as having a "critical need" for their services. Previously, these temporary certificates were only valid as long as the area maintained its critical need status, as determined by the State Surgeon General. The bill introduces a new provision allowing a certificateholder to continue providing primary care services in an area even after it loses its critical need designation, provided they maintain an active treatment relationship with patients in that area and the relevant board finds they still meet all other requirements. Additionally, the bill mandates annual reviews by the respective boards (Board of Medicine, Board of Osteopathic Medicine, and Board of Nursing) to ensure certificateholders continue to meet minimum practice standards, with the possibility of revocation or restrictions if they do not.
