This bill revises the conditions under which the Florida Boards of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Nursing can issue temporary certificates for practice in areas of critical need, which are locations experiencing a shortage of healthcare professionals. Previously, these temporary certificates were only valid as long as the area maintained its critical need designation. Now, the bill allows for two conditions for a certificate to remain valid: either the State Surgeon General continues to recognize the area as having a critical need, or if the area loses its critical need designation, the certificate holder can continue providing primary care services to existing patients in that area if they maintain an active patient relationship and the board finds they meet all other requirements. The bill also mandates annual reviews by the respective boards to ensure certificate holders comply with practice requirements, with the possibility of revocation or restrictions if they do not.
