This bill amends South Carolina state law to expand free park access for disabled veterans. Currently, disabled veterans who are classified as permanently and totally disabled by the Veterans Administration can enter state parks without charge, but they were previously only allowed free entry to park grounds. The new legislation will allow these veterans to also use campsites, overnight lodging, and recreation buildings at state parks free of charge, upon presenting an identification card from their county veterans affairs officer that confirms their permanent and total disability status. The bill maintains existing provisions that define disability as the inability to perform substantial gainful employment due to a medically-determinable physical or mental impairment expected to last continuously for twelve months or more. The amendment will take effect immediately upon the Governor's approval, providing an additional benefit to disabled veterans by removing financial barriers to enjoying state park facilities.
