This bill amends existing law to require certain political subdivisions, specifically those that own, rent, or lease a facility in or near a precinct lacking a suitable polling place and that have held an election conducted by a county election board since January 1, 2023, to provide that facility as a polling place at no cost upon the written request of the county election board's secretary. This change removes the previous discretionary option for school district boards of education to provide polling places in school buildings and the mandatory requirement for municipalities to do so, instead placing a new obligation on a broader category of political subdivisions under specific circumstances. The bill will become effective on November 1, 2026.
