This bill creates a tax exemption for licensed nonprofit organizations that provide durable medical equipment (DME) to patients at no charge. Specifically, the bill exempts these "free durable medical equipment providers" from paying retail sales and use tax on items that are reasonably necessary for their operation and health care provision. To qualify, an organization must be a nonprofit that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c) of the federal tax code and must not charge patients for the medical equipment they provide. The bill defines durable medical equipment using the existing definition in RCW 82.08.0283.
