This bill modifies the timeline and process for reviewing charter school applications in Wyoming. Currently, when a charter school application is submitted, the authorizer must notify the applicant within 30 days about whether the application is complete. If the application is incomplete, the authorizer must provide detailed reasons for the applicant to make necessary changes. The bill extends the timeline for the authorizer to review and decide on a complete charter school application from 90 to 120 days. During this review process, the authorizer must hold a public hearing to assess community and parental support, conduct an in-person interview with the applicant, and then either approve or deny the application. For converted charter schools, the authorizer must also verify that there is sufficient teacher and parental support for the conversion. The changes will apply to new charter school applications submitted on or after the bill's effective date, which is immediately upon completing the legal steps required to enact a law in Wyoming.
