This bill amends existing law to adjust the salary ranges and pay progression for law enforcement officers within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Specifically, it requires the DNR director to establish specialized pay plans for DNR law enforcement officers and wildland firefighters that meet certain requirements, including defining salary ranges and pay progression for DNR law enforcement officers, and to include recommendations for funding and salary increases. A new provision states that if the Legislature appropriates funds, the DNR executive director, in cooperation with the Division of Human Resource Management, shall increase the salary range and pay progression for DNR law enforcement officers to be more in line with other state law enforcement officers. The bill also includes an appropriation of $2,839,300 from the General Fund for the Department of Natural Resources' law enforcement activities for fiscal year 2027, with the intention that these funds be used for the salary adjustments described. The bill is set to take effect on May 6, 2026.
