This bill modifies the composition and appointment process for the Board of Trustees of the Department of Archives and History in Alabama. The bill expands the board from its previous structure to now include one member from each congressional district (as they existed on January 1, 2025), nine at-large members, and the Governor or their designee. The new structure creates 16 specific board seats with detailed provisions for appointment, including seats representing congressional districts and at-large positions appointed by the Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Each seat has a specific six-year term with staggered start dates beginning in 2025. The bill requires that board appointments reflect diversity across racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic dimensions. Appointed members will serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority and must be confirmed by the Senate. The board members will continue to serve without compensation but will receive per diem and travel allowances.
