This bill modifies the definition of a "career teacher" in Oklahoma law, which refers to a teacher who has achieved a certain level of experience and performance. Previously, a career teacher was defined by years of service and, for those hired after the 2017-2018 school year, by achieving specific evaluation ratings under the Oklahoma Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System (TLE). This bill expands the definition to include teachers who, after meeting the initial requirements in one school district, are hired by another and have that new district's board of education approve their career status. It also clarifies that the term "teacher" will have the same meaning as provided in another section of Oklahoma law. The bill also makes a technical correction to the definition of a "teacher hearing" by adding "Oklahoma" to the Constitution of Oklahoma. This act is set to become effective on July 1, 2026, and is declared an emergency, meaning it will take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
