This bill amends existing law to expand eligibility for the educator salary adjustment program by adding registered nurses to the definition of "educator." Previously, the educator salary adjustment, which is funded by legislative appropriations to attract and retain skilled professionals in education, was available to individuals holding a license from the state board and working as teachers, speech pathologists, librarians, counselors, psychologists, social workers, audiologists, or mentor teachers, as well as those licensed by the Division of Professional Licensing and working as social workers. This change, effective July 1, 2026, will now include registered nurses employed by school districts, charter schools, regional education service agencies, or the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind in this salary adjustment program.
