This bill mandates that the Secretary of Education will create or select an open-source, easily accessible, and interdisciplinary curriculum focused on climate change for elementary and secondary schools, aligning with the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's 2023 synthesis report, and will build upon existing resources to integrate climate change education across various subjects. Furthermore, by July 1, 2027, the State Board of Education must update its Education Quality Standards to require that all supervisory unions, which are administrative districts overseeing multiple school districts, incorporate environmental and climate change education at all grade levels, consistent with the curriculum developed by the Secretary. This act will become effective on July 1, 2026.
