Bill Summary

Directory of in network providers. Requires, upon issuance and renewal of a policy, an insurer to provide a directory of providers with which the insurer has entered into a reimbursement agreement to an insured or prospective insured. (Under current law, an insurer may provide a directory of providers to an insured.) Provides that: (1) a directory of providers provided by an insurer must include every provider that has entered into a reimbursement agreement with the insurer; and (2) a list of providers provided by a health maintenance organization must include every provider who provides health care services through the health maintenance organization.

AI Summary

This bill mandates that insurance companies and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) must provide a directory of their "in-network" providers, meaning those with whom they have a reimbursement agreement, to policyholders or subscribers. This directory must be given upon the issuance and renewal of a policy, and also to prospective insureds or potential enrollees upon request. The bill changes current law, which allowed insurers to provide such directories, to require them to do so. Furthermore, it specifies that these directories must include every provider with whom the insurer or HMO has an agreement, ensuring a comprehensive list for consumers. The bill also requires that consumers be informed they can request a paper copy of the directory, and that it must be provided if requested.
