This bill prohibits the use of infant walkers in child care facilities by amending the social services law. An "infant walker" is defined as a mobile unit that allows a child to move on a flat surface by propelling themselves while sitting or standing inside it. A "child care facility" includes any child day care provider or child care program, such as those in New York City. The bill also repeals a previous section of the general business law that dealt with prohibiting the sale and restricting the use of infant walkers in certain settings. The office of children and family services, in conjunction with the New York City department of health and mental hygiene, will be responsible for informing child care facilities about this new prohibition in clear, easy-to-understand language.
