This bill requires individuals applying for positions that require educator certification or any position with direct student contact in district school systems, charter schools, or private schools participating in state scholarship programs to provide specific information to their potential employer. This includes contact details for current and former employers, particularly those where they worked with children or in educational settings, and a written authorization for these employers to share information. Applicants must also disclose if they have ever been investigated for abuse or sexual misconduct (unless the allegations were found to be false), disciplined, discharged, asked to resign, or resigned from employment due to pending or substantiated allegations of abuse or sexual misconduct, or had a license or certificate suspended, surrendered, or revoked under similar circumstances. The school or district receiving the application must then review this submitted information as part of their hiring process. This new requirement is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
